WHAT THE BUTLER SAW - MARK TAPER FORUM, LA

“The veterans in this international cast lead the way, with the ferociously superb Barber, a classical actress from the U.K., giving a master class in the essential ingredients of farcical acting: sputtering anger, bald-faced hypocrisy and out-of-control lust. Deliciously amusing when rancorous, she is even more irresistibly humorous when overcome with bodily urges.”
Charles McNulty – Los Angeles Times, 25th November 2014

“[Frances Barber] is hilarious from start to finish with some delicious mugging and fast and furious pratfalls.”
Don Grigware
– BroadwayWorld.com, 25th November 2014

“For me the star turn in this production is the extremely talented Frances Barber… Ms. Barber portrays [Mrs. Prentice] broadly, bawdily and brilliantly.”
Michelle Clay – LASplash.com, 25th November 2014

JULIUS CAESAR - DONMAR WAREHOUSE, LONDON UK and ST. ANN'S WAREHOUSE, NYC

"A crackling troupe led by the stalwarts of British classical theater Harriet Walter and Frances Barber"
Ben Brantley
– The New York Times, 9th October 2013

“The show, brilliantly directed by Phyllida Lloyd... is gripping all the way through… Walter is surrounded by a terrific cast… Frances Barber is a vicious Caesar, a smug bully in a black beret.”
Elizabeth Vincentelli
– New York Post, 9th October 2013

"Frances Barber is a swaggering Caesar. As a thug who seems (the narrative is not always clear) also to be a warder, she draws on the ripeness and abundance that has made her so sensuous as an actress and turns it into violence. "
Susannah Clapp – The Observer, 9th December 2012

SILK

"Series two has also been an improvement on an already strong first outing thanks to the casting of the magnificent Frances Barber as QC Caroline Warwick, also known as Lady Macbeth."
Julia Raeside – The Guardian, 31st May 2012

Alex's series looking back at the film careers of actors who've played the Doctor finishes with Matt Smith and Peter Capaldi...

Feature

Read the previous part in this series: the film careers of Christopher Eccleston and David Tennant, here.

By 2009, the new version of Doctor Who had become not only an integral part of Saturday night television and a huge Christmas ratings winner but also an international success all over again. David Tennant, who had played the Time Lord since 2005 and was, arguably, more popular than any Doctor since the mighty Tom Baker hung up his scarf in 1981, had announced his resignation from the part he loved in October 2008. Many wondered how the incoming showrunner, Steven Moffat, would follow Tennant and what kind of show would emerge.

Tennant spent much of 2009 on stage in Hamlet and was only able to devote small amounts of time to Doctor Who. Occasional specials »

The six-part run will begin in the autumn, with Rebecca Front starring as a psychiatrist who takes therapy sessions with history's most iconic women.

The women will be played by some big comedy names including Jack Whitehall, Katy Brand and Meera Syal.

Also featuring in the episodes will be Sam Spiro, Sharon Horgan, Morgana Robinson, Michelle Gomez, Doon MacKichan, Sophie Ellis-Bextor, Cardinal Burns, Sheila Reid, Selina Griffiths, Zawe Ashton and Frances Barber.

The League of Gentlemen's Jeremy Dyson has co-written and directed the new series.

Ben Cavey, executive producer, commented: "It's fantastic to bring the team back together for series two of Psychobitches.

"We have a whole new lineup of women from history getting a dose of modern-day therapy and the results promise to be just as clever, insightful and downright silly."
